Existentialism

Opening Scene:
The crypts of human mind are perhaps the most enigmatic of all the natural phenomenon.

When people talked about soul, they talked about self-awareness (This is MY interpretaion. Need not be accurate) And because of this self-awareness we were placed at a higher notch than animals because animals survive on instinct (simple flow chart program).

Scene shift to personal life:
How much does this awareness help in day to day survival?
I am aware of my short-comings. But what do i do to overcome them? People may argue that action is in your hands; to which i agree, but i want to say that awareness perhaps makes you aware of certain needs. It need not necessarily push you to overcome them. There you again go instinctive.

Existentialist interpretation of life (my interpretations of Kierkegaard (Pro:keerk-gaw) and Nietzsche) has been my pillar for years where i have always looked at religion and morality as something meant for that class of humanity which either lacks the ability to think for itself or is unwilling to do so.
But my failure comes from the facts that where as i have never believed in religion and morality, i have been let down time and again by people who i need to interact with and they have firm belief in such things.

Man is not an island. Born free, i am free to maintain my own philosophy. But how do i ensure that these popular ways of living, where life is a no-brainer and must be lived from birth to death in a pre-defined manner, do not step on my toes?

Most of my personal failures can be attributed to my complete lack of ability to take into account what religion and morality means for other people and how strongly it interferes in their rational thinking process. I have found several people who share my point of view in principle and enjoy my company, just before getting up and saying “i have been enjoying your company thoroughly but i am sorry, i ahve to go for evening prayers, which i have never missed”

My grudge is that neither religion nor morality can be logically argued. Years of faith, bringing up and brainwashing has lead to generations and generations of humans who follow the norms, instinctively.

Are we still fit to be categorised above animals if most of us have lost our ability to think rationally and get guided by pre-defined principles?

Mediocrities cannot understand when a man does not blindly subjugate himself to hereditary prejudices but genuinely uses his intelligence.
(Adapted from “Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence”. - Albert Einstein (1879-1955))
